From a Worcestershire pool to the top of world swimming - and into the boardroom.

Matt was born on 17 December 2002 in Droitwich, Worcestershire, and started swimming at the age of five. He represented Wales as a junior through his Welsh-born father and, in 2019, became European Junior 100m freestyle champion.

By the time he moved into senior international swimming, he was already used to racing on nights that mattered.

At the Tokyo Olympics - held in 2021 - Matt swam the third leg as Great Britain won gold in the 4×200m freestyle relay. It was Britain’s first Olympic title in the event since 1908.

His first Games. His first Olympic gold. A career opened at the highest possible altitude.

Matt was appointed MBE in the 2022 New Year Honours for services to swimming - recognition at 19 for the role he had played in one of the defining British performances of Tokyo 2020.

At the 2023 World Championships in Fukuoka, Matt became world champion in the 200m freestyle and again in the 4×200m freestyle relay, and won bronze in the mixed 4×100m freestyle relay.

He also holds the British record in the 100m freestyle.

In Paris, Matt took Olympic silver in the 200m freestyle in a time of 1:44.74 - beaten by 0.02 seconds - the finest of margins on the biggest stage.

Days later, he anchored back with the relay. The same four swimmers who had won in Tokyo won again in Paris, becoming the first quartet in history to defend an Olympic swimming relay title.

At the 2025 World Championships in Singapore, Matt was once again part of the winning 4×200m freestyle relay - a third world title, and a reminder that the era is not slowing down.

Alongside training and racing, Matt founded Sponza - a marketplace connecting athletes directly with brands, born from his own frustration with how broken athlete sponsorship is.

An Olympic champion turned entrepreneur, still competing at the top of the sport while building the company he wishes had existed when he first turned professional.

The point isn’t that an athlete happens to have a company. The point is that he understands sponsorship from both sides of the table, and can hold both conversations fluently.

The next Olympic cycle. The next set of finals. And a company reshaping how athletes and brands find each other. The chapters aren’t done… they’re merely beginning.
